Question It's a Snap

Coastlock or breakaways
What's your preference and why? What size do you prefer?

I use a 100# spro ballbearing coastlock. A lot of guys like the breakawys though. From what I understand, their big draw is that they're easy to open. I never had a problem opening a coastlock however. So if aint broke don't fix it, that's my only real reason.

I'm in the same boat with my R34 Coastlocks. A lot of guys have gone to the Breakaways with good reason, but I wouldn't know what it is.

Some say that lock snaps can open when a fish bites down on them. I think it might be more due to not successfully engaging the snap when changing lures.

I've had coastlocks open up more than once in the past . Since then, it's been tying direct. Until I found breakaways which have been reliable so far but I only use them for convinence sometimes.

I don't think the problems with coastlocks are that a fish bites down on them. During a fight fish can roll, dig in, twist and do all kinds of unruly things to your rig. At some point the lock can pop open (or hooks open up ). The same stuff happens with sharks sometimes.

I haven't tried breakaways and I think a lot of it has to do with the name "BREAKAWAYS".......

Default "Breakaways"

Try Them.

The only thing you'll be "Breaking Away" from is whatever clip or snap you USED TO USE .

These things are simple, easy-to-use, strong, and make sense.

What happens to metal the more you bend it? say after 1,2,3, or 10 lure changes? With the Breakaways the metal just barely moves when changing lures.

Buy a pack and Check 'em Out:

Breakaway Clips

I'm sure that they work well, never heard anything bad about them, but if my buddy and I were fishing and he said, "here, try one of these new "breakaway" snaps instead of that swivel"...I'd either say....
a) no
or
B) sure and I'll tie it to my new "fray away" leader material and snap it on to this new "frighten away" plug

.....just having some fun,

... and come to think about it, if you had "fray-away" line you could use a "cast-away" lure...

oh boy... is it spring yet?
