I didn't like the look of Ocean Drive and I'm still crispy from last night's fishing marathon in the big seas and East winds so i think I'm going to take the night off.

We could do a "Frightnight's Frustrations" part of the blog/fishing report...

I'm somewhat serious about that actually. People could chime in with their thoughts, ideas, and experiences.

Working in the shop all the time I get to see people just getting into fishing feeling discouraged ALL THE TIME. You are far from alone on that front. The learning curve can be steep in the first couple of years.

I would like to find additional writers. We obviously can't pay for writing, but some sort of store credit might not be out of the question for quality content.

For now, if everyone just keeps the fishing report section well used that will work as well if not better then my fishing reports. Most of what I write is a review of the past week up to that point. Best things to be taken from it are where the fishing WAS good. At this point, for the most part the fish are moving slowly to the West along the coast so it's easy to guesstimate where they might be moving next.

I'll also start a "September in review" thread. I think you'll find most people, at least those who fish around Newport found the month to be VERY disappointing, for the most part.

LOL, Hey Pete. I laughed so hard at the "Frightnights Frustrations" thing. Hey, I think everyone knows who I am on this site by now. I have been stomping and crying enough? Hey, you want to make me famous, have at it. I am a team player. "Frightnights Frustrations", is catchy, not to mention funny. I am sure there is a few people out there that would get a kick out of it. Hey, we can start a pool on when I will catch my first keeper, and how many pounds it will be. I will bring it to your store to be weighed in. That is assuming I will catch a keeper!!! I mean it has been like six weeks since my last keeper. We have to come up with a prize though. A plug, another hoodie, or maybe a trip in my boat so they can experience my awesome fishing skills first hand! LOL Ok, I am ready.

Feel free to foward anything you want to peterg@saltwateredge.com Frightnight.

I'll either post it as a separate report or fold it into mine. I'm sure other guys just getting started fishing will relate to it. If it's in the blog and you ask a few questions as part of the report you'll probably get responses.

Anyone else that wants to add in any reports would be great too. I can update that report more often with some more reports. I mostly fish Newport whether it's boat or shore, so some additional reports (what you're catching, how, when, etc.) is all good info especially if it's from another part of the state.

It's tough for me to keep that report fresh when it's only me really feeding it. I fish just a handful of spots real hard and I only leave the Island when the fishing is horrible.

Ha ha, just kidding about that last thread. I did go out and fished yesterday and caught on tiny schoolie bass, and two, decent sized blues, but still, no keeper bass for me. 46 days and counting....

I'm just happy to get out and go fishing. My travel schedule has not allowed me much opportunity to hit the surf recently. My goal is to get out whenever and wherever I can. Fished upper bay for an hour on Sat landed a blue and had a few strikes. I am in Manhattan today and have carved out a few hours to hit the flats.

I was hitting it hard, and catching nothing, so stepped back a little. I am a new fisherman this year though. So new, I am not sure what the "Flats" mean. Have a guess but, a the possibility of looking dumber than I am, will keep it to myself. So, what are the flats? No surf and wave thing?

"Flats" is a generally referring to typically shallow flat stretches of ocean floor. 10 feet or less although that number is open to interpretation. Sightfishing in places like that isn't uncommon. Fish can be spooky there due to the lack of protection for them.

Think fishing for bonefish in Florida like you'd see on TV, only in the NorthEast and rarely is the water as clean.
