SWE Guide Service
The Saltwater Edge
has been guiding people of all ages and skill levels on the waters of
Narragansett Bay and Rhode Island Sound for over 15 years. One of our
fully insured, friendly, Coast Guard Licensed guides will get you on
the water in one of their comfortable, safe, center console boats which
are ideal for fly fishing the reefs and boulder fields or tossing big
plugs into the white water pockets along Newport. We also offer some
amazing trips from shore for both types of anglers fishing the waters
along Newport and the South County beaches. We take pride in getting
you, your family, and friends into fish on every trip. Why not give us
a call to book a trip this upcoming season and experience what many
will tell you is a trip you will not soon forget! We can provide you
and your party with almost any fishing adventure you desire. We
specialize in light tackle fly fishing and spin tackle fishing. We also
offer trips for larger parties that may want to relax and troll the
local waters or fish the bottom with bait for that monster Striped
Bass. If you can dream it up we will do our best to provide your party
with any number of fantastic local guides who would be more than happy
to get you on the fish of a lifetime!
Contact us at 1-401-842-0062 or
email us at guidetrips@saltwateredge.com
for more information or to make arrangements to fish with a SWE Guide!
We encourage you to book
well in advance! Around holidays and weekends things fill up fast so
try not to book last minute. This will also help you get the better
dates and times each season. Thank You!

Species We Pursue And When To Book |
|
|
Striped
Bass (May - Nov)
The Striped Bass is our top
request fish. People love them and they are fun to catch. Willing to
take most streamers or plugs almost all season long. These guys are
lots of fun to pursue in the white water or in the boulder fields that
litter the Rhode Island coast.
|
|
|
Bluefish
(May - Oct)
The Bluefish are a good fight on
any light tackle gear. When they school up in mid summer and turn the
water into a frothing blood bath you'll get respect for them real
quick. Great on surface plugs or poppers as they love anything fast
moving on the surface!
|
|
|
Atlantic
Bonito (July - Oct)
The Bonito or "bones" show up in
mid summer. These little speedsters are great to catch on light tackle
spinning gear or fly rods. You're sure to hear some drag or see some
backing from these fast movers. They also taste great when released on
the grill!
|
|
|
False
Albacore (August - Oct)
The "albies" show up near Labor
Day and are without question one of our favorite fish to chase. They
feed fast and can make many sure anglers buckle under pressure. They
are tons of fun on light tackle and can be a challenge but rewarding
when you do catch one.

|
|
Skipjack
Tuna (Aug - Sept)
The "skippies" are not an inshore
fish but over the last 6 years we have had occasional visits from this
true tuna. They are the best fighter out of the small tuna we see
inshore and will put a serious bend in any light tackle rod you're
using. A guide favorite for sure. (Not
Guaranteed)

|
Bluefin
Tuna (Aug - Oct)
The Bluefin Tuna is the prize of
any inshore boat angler. The light tackle guys love them when they are
in the 10-80lb class and they sometimes come very close to shore for
the small center consoles. They are the best hands down. These fish
will occasionally come onshore but most of the fishing for these guys
is done offshore. Always an amazing fight on the light gear we use
trust that. We use heavier spinning rods and 12-14wt fly rods for
anything over 30lbs.
