We get this question quite a bit here at The Saltwater Edge and we can understand why. In the past ordering from The SWE and many other online stores was a virtual "crapshoot". There were items available for order that we just didn't have in stock. We spent a large part of each day calling customers and disappointing them by letting them know which items really were not available. Well good news is things have changed! Now beside each item on the product screen you'll find one of the following "Stock-Level" descriptions:
In Stock - Ready To Ship
Low Stock - Ready To Ship
Backordered
Out of Stock
Drop Ship Available
These "Stock-Level" Descriptions are the key to what you can expect as far as current, "real-time" availability. We've integrated our actual inventory numbers with the website so the quantity of any item on the website is updated right away when somebody purchases that item in the store. With that said let's get an understanding of what the SWE Stock-Level definitions really mean.
"In Stock - Ready To Ship" means we currently have that item in stock, and under most circumstances if you order before 4pm it will ship the same day and you could receive the items you've ordered as early as tomorrow.
"Low Stock - Ready To Ship" means there is currently only 1 left of the item in question. Scoop it up before someone else does! That item will also be shipped the very same day for all orders placed before 4pm M-F.
"Backordered - Get An Email When it Arrives!" - Here's where things get interesting. If you see this message it means we do not have this item In-Stock at the present time. We are trying to reduce the number of products that fall into this category but sometimes the nature of the product itself (custom plugs, Extra-Select Bucktail) means it won't always be available. The best thing to do here is to utilize the "Waitlist" feature. Click on the link and submit your email address, then when the product in question DOES become available you'll receive an email alerting you to the fact the item is back In-Stock and ready to be ordered. Note that everyone who signed up to receive this alert will be sent the email simultaneously, so if it is a high demand item you may need to act fast.
"Out of Stock" means this item is not currently available. It also means we've decided not to allow "Waitlisting" of this item since it may not be available for many months or even years to come, if ever. This is true of some custom plugs that we've decided to leave on the website since many enjoy looking at the pictures.
"Drop Ship Available" means this item is available to be ordered, but instead of shipping from our own warehouse, it will ship direct from the Supplier or Manufacturer. Feel confident we'll do everything we can to speed this order along to your door. In some cases you may even receive the product sooner than you would if it DID ship from the SWE, it all depends on your location and the supplier or manufacturer's diligence (don't worry we'll stay on them). We thought it would a good idea to include this "Stock-Level" description so as to give a realistic expectation of service. While our "In-Stock" items usually arrive the next day or within a few days, "Drop-Ship" orders can take a little more time and we wanted to make that known up-front.
Accuracy
So how accurate are these "Stock-Level" definitions? Well, while this system isn't quite yet 100% it's a HUGE difference from where we were even a year ago. Many customers have noted the difference and it keeps getting better each day as we find issues and work them out. So go ahead, order with confidence and if there is any issue what-so-ever you can expect a prompt (usually same day) phone call and/or email detailing the issue and how we hope to resolve it.
Hope this info helps and "Thank-You" for your patronage,
Saltwater Edge
